House
for Season 11
HR # 1 Meeting Dates
1.01 The meeting dates for Season 11 in 2008 are these Tuesdays: Jan 22, Feb 19, Mar 18, Apr 15, May 13, Jun 10, Jul 8, Aug 5, Sep 2, Sep 30.
HR # 2 Meeting Place
2.01 Game Chest, Collin Creek Mall.
HR # 3 Meeting Time
3.01 6:30 pm. We might wait a few minutes if we know you’re coming. It is strongly suggested you reply to Tim Kelly’s “Attendance Check” emails, so we’ll know if you plan to be at a race.
HR # 4 Rules Corrections / Unforeseen Events / Mulligans
4.01 No Mulligans for veteran drivers. Ever. Period. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse. Read these rules before you race with us, and don’t ask to redo a roll, or a turn, because you didn’t understand, or remember, a rule.
4.02 Rookie Mulligans “First time ever” drivers are allowed 1 Mulligan (do-over) in their very first race, but ONLY if a problem arises from a misunderstanding of the rules, not because of a bad die roll. No one who has driven in more than one race in Season 11, or driven in any race in any previous season, will be allowed a Mulligan in Season 11, no matter how infrequently that person has driven with us.
4.03 Rules Changes if we got a “Rule Book” rule wrong An EGD rule (not a House Rule) found IN THIS RULEBOOK may be corrected during the course of the season (not during the course of a single race) if we discover we have been playing it incorrectly. This includes rules clarifications from Ron Magin, or other EGD representative.
4.04 Other rules changes will be made ONLY at the Sports Overseer Boardmembers meeting/voting session during the last race at the end of Season 11. Exception: If the new ‘gearing’ dice are actually produced and sold at some point during the current millennium, drivers may choose to use these during our races.
HR # 5 Track Choice/Track Type Choice
5.01 The track for each race will be chosen by Tim Kelly on the day before the race in question. Tracks will be chosen at random from the list of available tracks we have yet to drive on during the current ‘cycle’. This choice will be emailed to the drivers on the Monday before the race.
5.02 Each track (from the list of all available FD tracks from EGD) will be driven on once before we begin the ‘cycle’ again. Boards 2 & 3 will be included on the list of track choices as individual boards which may be used for a race.
5.03 The final race of the season will be on the boards 2 & 3 ‘combo’ track.
5.04 When one of the “Indy-style” tracks (currently numbers 26 and 30) is chosen, the race will be on the Formula 1 track, not the 4-lane, “Indy” style oval. We will use the standard ‘3-lane rules’, and not use any of the special ‘4-lane oval’ rules included with the “Indy-style” tracks. No one will be allowed to drive on the outside lane.
HR # 6 Scoring Points
6.01 Placement Points for the first 8 finishers, regardless of the number of boards in use: 10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1.
6.02 Each driver gets +1 bonus point for starting the race, and +1 bonus point for finishing the race.
6.03 We will award placement points to the top 8 finishers. We will award these placement points, even if fewer than 8 Drivers finish the race. If placement points must be awarded to Drivers who did not actually finish the race, their position and points will be based on distance traveled around the track, not the order in which the cars were eliminated.
HR # 7 Points Tie-Breaking Procedure
7.01 When two or more drivers are tied in points, the tie will be broken by comparing their finishing positions from the current season’s races. To break the tie, the driver with the most 1st place finishes will be placed ahead of the other(s) in the point standings. If the tied drivers’ number of 1st place finishes are the same, their 2nd place finishes will be compared, and the driver with the most 2nd place finishes will be placed ahead of the other(s) in the
point standings, etc., etc.
7.02 If a tie is unable to be broken by the preceding method, compare the tied drivers’ average starting positions in the season thus far. The driver who has started the farthest back, on average, will be ranked ahead of the other driver(s) in the tied group.
7.03 If a tie is unable to be broken by the preceding methods, then compare the tied drivers’ team records. The driver on the team with the highest score will be ranked ahead of the others involved in the tie.
7.04 If two or more drivers are tied, and their records are so similar the tie is unable to be broken by the preceding methods, the tied drivers will roll the ‘damage’ die (immediately prior to ‘grouping’ using HR #10) to break the tie. The driver rolling the lowest number will be ranked ahead of the other(s) involved in the tie.
HR # 8 Team Assignments
8.01 The top 5 scoring drivers from Season 10 will be assigned to separate teams. 5 other drivers in the group will be assigned to the 5 teams (listed below) at random prior to the first race. Remaining drivers will be assigned to teams in pairs at random. Drivers joining the league after team assignments are completed will be assigned to teams in pairs in the order they join. The top 5 Drivers from Season 10 were as follows, and will be assigned to these teams:
Team 1 Ed Vaver
Team 2 KEvin Ames
Team 3 Lonny Danchik
Team 4 Brian Andreassen
Team 5 Tennant Tranchin
8.02 Parents of students High School age or younger may elect to drive on the same team as their child. This is an exception to HR # 8.01.
8.03 No two Drivers may be on the same team two years in succession, except as part of a “Parent/Child” team as described in HR # 8.02.
HR # 9 Pit Assignments
9.01 Pit Assignments for the First Race of the Season. Drivers will choose pits on their board in reverse order of their starting positions as assigned by HR # 22.02.
9.02 Pit Assignments for Races 2 – 10. The Driver with the lowest score (in points for the current season) on a particular board will be allowed first choice of pit before the beginning of each race. The next highest scoring Driver on that board will choose next, etc. Ties in Driver standings will be broken by the procedure in HR # 7.
9.03 “Pit Sharing” rules: No pit may be chosen by more than two Drivers. Team members driving on the same board need not share a pit. Pits may be chosen in any order. Once a Pit has been chosen by 2 Drivers, no other drivers may choose that particular Pit on that board for that race.
9.04 On boards with less than 9 drivers, it is possible not all pits will be chosen.
9.05 Drivers will be assigned dashboards matching their chosen pit color.
HR # 10 Starting Positions
10.01 First Race of the Season starting positions will be decided by die roll. Lowest roll gets the poll position, highest roll gets the last position. Tied players will re-roll among themselves until all ties are broken. If there are enough drivers so HR #22 causes us to split into 2 or more groups, team members will be assigned to different boards by random die roll as described in HR #22.02, and this ‘team split’ roll will also be used to determine starting
positions on the boards.
10.02 Starting positions for races 2 - 10: Group the drivers on a board in ascending order based on individual score from Season 11, lowest score at the front, highest score in the back, breaking ties using HR #7. Then divide the drivers into 2 groups (a low score half, and a high score half) and roll for position within the 2 groups. Lowest roll gets the position closest to the front of a group, highest roll gets the last position in a group, with the other
drivers arranged in ascending order of die rolls. With an odd number of drivers, the ‘back’ (highest scoring) group always gets the ‘extra’ driver.
HR # 11 Weather Rules
11.01 Weather will be determined by die roll, using the “barometer” on the board. The roll will be made at the Game Chest, just before players begin designing their cars for the evening’s race. The roll will be made with at least three (3) Dallas De’ Trippers members present to verify the result. In the interest of saving time, this roll need not be made by the pole position driver.
11.02 On ‘split’ nights, a single roll will be made, and the beginning weather result will apply to both boards. Once the race begins, a change of weather on one board will not affect any other board(s) in play.
HR # 12 Additional Movement Options
12.01 Drivers may expend an engine point (take a WP of engine damage) to move one extra space. Only one such ‘extra space’ move may be made in a single turn. Drivers may not ‘suicide’ by deliberately expending their last engine point to move an extra space and blow up their car.
12.02 This extra space of movement DOES NOT place debris on the track.
12.03 Players in 6th Gear may “shift up” to 7th Gear. 7th Gear is simulated by rolling the 6th Gear Die and adding 10 to the result. A roll of “40” (30 + 10) requires engine and weather checks, just as a “20” or “30” would. Players may “downshift” from 7th Gear as they would from any other Gear.
HR # 13 Zigzagging/Bypassing
13.01 Drivers may change lanes to position their cars in the same lane with debris, or other cars, as long as the driver does not violate the rest of the lane changing rules. You may change up to 2 lanes for ‘positioning’ purposes ONLY if the 2nd lane change does not bring you back to the lane in which you began the turn. The exceptions to this are bypassing another car, or bypassing debris. You may zigzag to return to your original lane IF you are bypassing
another car, or debris. Bypassing may be done as many times as necessary in a turn. Changing lanes for positioning is subject to the ‘2 lane max.’ limit.
13.02 For a move to qualify as a ‘bypass’, and not be considered a ‘lane change’, the bypassing car MUST return to the lane containing the debris or other car, unless the bypassing car runs out of movement points. A ‘bypass’ may only begin in the space directly behind the car/debris to be bypassed. Lane changes made to avoid cars/debris are NOT considered ‘bypasses’ UNLESS the lane change begins in the space directly behind the car/debris.
HR # 14 Combo Track Rules for Race # 10, using boards 2 & 3
14.01 In even-numbered Seasons (10, 12, 14, etc.), the Start/Finish Line used will be on Board 2. In odd-numbered Seasons (11, 13, 15, etc.), the Start/Finish Line used will be on Board 3.
14.02 In even-numbered Seasons (10, 12, 14, etc.), the Pit Area used will be on Board 2. In odd-numbered Seasons (11, 13, 15, etc.), the Pit Area used will be on Board 3.
14.03 In even-numbered Seasons (10, 12, 14, etc.), the Barometer used will be on Board 2. In odd-numbered Seasons (11, 13, 15, etc.), the Barometer used will be on Board 3.
14.04 Drivers will be allowed a total of 24 damage points, instead of 20.
14.05 Drivers will be allowed 4 wrenches, instead of 2.
14.06 This is a two (2) lap race using the 3-lap race sheets.
See HR #21 for use of the dark gray lanes.
HR # 15 Driver/Car Limits
15.01 No member of the Dallas De’ Trippers may control more than a single car at any one time in any one race.
HR # 16 Laps per Race
16.01 Races number 1 through 9 will be three (3) lap races.
16.02 Race number 10 will be a two (2) lap race on the boards 2 & 3 ‘combo’ track using the setup rules found in HR #14.
HR # 17 Use of Advanced Rules
17.01 The Dallas De’ Trippers use all Advanced Rules EXCEPT Advanced Rule #2: Time Trials.
HR # 18 Choice of Car / Team Colors
18.01 The cars used by the players will depend on whatever Frank Waugh has available when they join the league. If Frank is not attending a particular race, we’ll use whatever FD-style cars fit on the track. Car color is not necessarily related to spoiler color, dashboard color, or pit color.
HR # 19 Driver Substitution
In the interest of keeping as many drivers as possible competing in each race, we allow the following type of substitutions:
19.01 If a driver must withdraw from a race before it is over, he may allow a single person to finish the race in his place. This other person may NOT be driving a car in the same race. A driver who has wrecked his car/blown his engine during the current race MAY substitute for the departing driver, as long as no driver is making die rolls for more than one car in a round. No one may drive more than one car at a time (see HR #15).
19.02 If a De’ Tripper member is unable to attend a race, this member may choose another person to act as a substitute driver. This substitute may not be competing in the current season’s races. If possible, please notify Tim Kelly of the substitution before the race.
When a driver chooses a sub, he relinquishes all control of the car to the sub. The driver may not request the sub to drive slowly (for example), just to guarantee finishing the race. The sub has complete control over how the car will be driven. Any points scored by the sub will count for the original driver, not the sub.
HR # 20 Overflow Starting Positions
20.01 If a large number of attendees cause some drivers to start in or behind a curve, these drivers may ignore the game’s ‘curve’ rules (treat the curve like ‘straight’ track) until they have exited or passed this curve.
HR # 21 Dark Gray Track Usage
21.01 Some tracks contain optional, dark gray lanes. When racing on one of these tracks, which of these optional lanes to use, if any, will be decided by vote of all the drivers present at the race that evening prior to beginning car design. Each optional section will be voted on separately. It’s possible to use some, none, or all of these sections, depending on the vote. When driving on one of the “Indy” style tracks, HR # 5.04 takes precedence over HR # 21.
HR # 22 Multiple Boards
22.01 A maximum of 10 drivers will race on a board. When more than 10 drivers are
racing, the drivers will be split among the minimum number of boards so there are
at most 10 drivers on each board.
22.02 For race 1, drivers will be assigned to boards by die roll. Team members must race on different boards. To split the team members, each player will make a ‘pole position’ role, with the low scoring roll driving on the ‘adult’ board for the evening. Tied team members will re-roll until the tie is broken. Drivers will be assigned starting positions for their board based on this roll.
22.03 For races 2 - 10, the drivers will be assigned boards based on scores for
the current season: higher scores to lower scores. Higher scores will be grouped together and lower scores together. Ties in scoring will be broken by HR #7, as usual. When the number of drivers is not evenly divisible by the number of boards, the extra drivers will race on the higher ranking boards. HR #10, Starting Positions, will be used to determine starting positions on each board after board assignments are made.
HR # 23 Additional “Quick Pit” rules
23.01 A driver, making a ‘quick’ pit stop for tires only may choose to wait a turn before exiting his pit, rather than being forced to make the ‘quick pit’ roll.
23.02 When choosing to make a ‘Quick Pit’ roll, the driver must choose a gear from 1st-4th BEFORE making the ‘Quick Pit’ roll. If the ‘Quick Pit’ roll fails, the driver may, on his next turn, re-choose a gear from 1st-4th before rolling the chosen gear die.
23.03 A driver making a “quick pit” roll of 11 or 12 must exit his pit with a move of 6 spaces. Normal “blocking” rules apply.
HR # 24 “Late Arrivals” rules
24.01 Players arriving after the starting position determination has begun (HR #10) will be placed in the rear-most positions of the starting grid. These tardy players will be placed behind the rearmost “on time” driver, and dice for starting position among themselves. If two boards are in use, a ‘late’ driver will be added (in the rearmost position) to the board on which he would have driven had he been on time.
24.02 Players arriving after the race has begun will be allowed to start in the rear-most positions of the starting grid (where they would have started, had they been on time, and in the rear-most positions), as long as the rearmost driver has not completed his 3rd turn. These tardy players will dice for starting position among themselves, and then take turns until they have each had as many turns as one of the ‘on time’ drivers. After the rearmost driver (on any
board, if more than one are in use) has completed his 3rd turn, no late arrivals may participate in the race, except as substitute drivers (HR # 19).
24.03 If late arriving drivers increase the number of attendees to 11 or more, and the rearmost driver has not yet completed his 3rd turn, we will start the race over. Drivers will be divided up into two groups using HR #22. The same starting order determined with HR #10 prior to the start of the single board race will be used. The late drivers will be added to the rearmost positions of the board to which they would have been assigned had they been on time, unless
this would violate HR # 22.01. In such cases, the late arriving drivers will be assigned to a board by die roll.
24.04 After a re-start as described in HR # 24.03 above, drivers may reconfigure their car and/or tire choice, if they so desire, prior to the resumption of the race.
HR # 25 The “Roll it in the Box” rule
25.01 In order to avoid possible disagreements over cocked die rolls, not to mention “dice-quakes” rearranging the cars on the track during a race, all De’ Tripper die rolls must be made in the box lid or suitable dice rolling tray. The driver should clear away other dice, especially same-gear dice, before his roll is made, to avoid possible confusion. Any roll made outside the box will be deemed invalid, and must be re-rolled in the box.
HR # 26 Voting on Rules Changes
26.01 Members desiring to submit a new house rule, or change any existing EGD rule or House Rule, should send an email outlining the proposed changes to Tim Kelly. These suggestions will be collected during the season, posted on the web site for discussion, and voted on during the last race of the season. In order to be included in the ‘end of the season’ vote, rules suggestions must be received no later than two weeks after Race # 9.
26.02 In order to vote on rules changes at the end of a season, a member must attend the last race of the season. The member need not stay to race, but must be present to vote.
HR # 27 Rescheduling Postponed Races
27.01 As soon as possible after a postponed race, the drivers will vote by email on a date to run the race. This date will be either one or two weeks after the original date.
